Why Sarawak?

Sarawak, the Land of the Hornbills, has long been known for its welcoming hospitality. We have a unique blend of cultures here, due to the addition of the traditional Borneo tribes with the usual West Malaysian blend of Chinese, Malay, and Indian. It is because of this that Sarawak has such a proud reputation for peaceful harmony.

The Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Melanau, and Penan cultures are foremost among the 27 ethnic groups in Sarawak, so the diversity of languages, foods, religions and festivals is very special. But don’t worry, English is spoken widely in Sarawak by all, being declared the official language!

Sarawak offers a balanced, stable political environment. It is a peaceful and safe place to live, with a low crime rate. The lower cost of living compared to West Malaysia (and many other countries around the world) means that expats can enjoy a high-quality lifestyle. The Sarawak Government actively promotes the multi-racial and multi-religious compatibility that underpins the community spirit here. They have created, and are continuing to develop, strong infrastructures of new roads, advanced health care facilities, private hospitals and schools. There is an excellent choice of international hospitals and education colleges available in Sarawak.

Sarawak’s location on the island of Borneo, the third largest island in the world, has rainforests laden with unique wildlife, as well as a long coastline on the South China Sea that has many beautiful beaches. There are 37 National Parks, 5 wildlife sanctuaries and 14 Nature Reserves with hiking trails, caves, waterfalls, and an abundance of wildlife that includes the majestic orangutans, proboscis monkeys, pangolins and hornbills – the icons of Sarawak – among the many species of amazing flora & fauna that flourishes in the rich tropical environment.

And in addition to this, Borneo sits perfectly in the centre of Southeast Asia, with neighbours such as Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Japan, China, Korea and Australia only a few hours flight away, so there are many relaxing and exciting international destinations to also enjoy!
